Accelerated Threshold Fatigue Crack Growth Effect – Powder Metallurgy Aluminum Alloy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fatigue crack growth (FCG) research conducted in the near threshold regime has identified a room temperature creep crack growth damage mechanism for a fine grain powder metallurgy (PM) aluminum alloy (8009). At very low ∆K, an abrupt acceleration in room temperature FCG rate occurs at high stress ratio (R = Kmin/Kmax). The near threshold accelerated FCG rates are exacerbated by increased levels of Kmax (Kmax ≥ 0.4 KIC). Detailed fractographic analysis correlates accelerated FCG with the formation of crack-tip process zone micro-void damage. Experimental results show that the near threshold and Kmax influenced accelerated crack growth is time and temperature dependent.

High frequency fatigue crack propagation behavior of a nickel-base turbine disk alloy
Fatigue crack propagation tests were conducted on the powder metallurgy nickel-base superalloy KM4 at room temperature. Two different heat treatments were investigated, one which produced a relatively coarse grain size around 55 μm, and another which produced a very fine grain size around 6 μm. Tests were conducted at 50 Hz and 1000 Hz in an advanced servohydraulic testing machine at R-ratios b...

Fatigue crack growth is examined in P/M 2124 aluminum alloys reinforced with SiC particles (SiCp) and whiskers (SiCw) over a wide spectrum of growth rates from 10 to 10 m per cycle. Effects of aging treatment, orientation of crack growth direction with respect to the rolling direction, mean stress (or stress ratio), and reinforcement volume percent on the fatigue crack growth threshold are inve...
متن کاملFatigue Crack Growth in a Particulate TiB2-Reinforced Powder Metallurgy Iron-Based Composite
Fatigue crack growth behavior has been examined in a particulate titanium diboride (TiB2)–reinforced iron-based composite that had been produced via a mechanical alloying process. Comparison with equivalent unreinforced material indicated that fatigue crack growth resistance in the composite was superior to monolithic matrix material in the near-threshold regime. The composite exhibited relativ...
متن کاملCrack Behavior of the Aluminum Alloy 2024 Under Fretting Conditions
The initial stage of fretting fatigue crack growth is significantly influenced by tangential force induced by fretting action along the contact surface where a mixed-mode crack growth is involved. Fretting crack behavior of aluminum alloy 2024 was studied, taking into account the problem of contact asperities. Finite element was used for the determination of the stress field near the contact su...
متن کاملEffects of Aging and Environment on Fatigue Crack Growth in Precipitation Hardened Al-Cu-Mg
Artificial aging degrades the fatigue crack growth (FCG) resistance of heat treatable aluminum alloys, particularly in the near-threshold regime. Consequently, applications of aluminum alloys in tensiondominated structures that require fatigue damage tolerance are limited to the naturally aged T3 temper. Degraded FCG resistance compromises the benefit from higher strength by artificial aging. W...
